Questions

The ones we are actually asked, answered straight. If yours is not here, ring 0161 222 8727.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the size of the loft, what is already up there and how easy it is to get into. That is why the survey is free and why we price in writing rather than over the telephone — a number given down the phone is a guess, and a guess either loses you money or gets revised upwards when somebody turns up.

How long does it take?

Most houses are a single day for insulation and a single day for boarding. A large loft, or one where the old material has to come out first, can run into a second day. The quotation says which.

How quickly can you start?

Most jobs are fitted within 24 hours of you accepting the quotation, subject to the survey. If a job cannot hit that, we say so at the survey rather than after.

Do I need to empty the loft?

Yes, please — anything stored up there has to come down before we start, or we cannot get to the floor to work on it. If that is difficult, tell us at the survey and we will talk about it.

Will boarding ruin my insulation?

It will if the boards go straight onto the joists, which is how a lot of loft boarding is fitted. We fit boards on a raised system so the insulation keeps its full depth. There is more about it on the loft boarding page.

What about damp and ventilation?

A loft needs air moving at the eaves. Insulation pushed into the eaves blocks that, and the first sign is damp on the underside of the roof. We leave the eaves clear and fit trays where the loft needs them.

Is there a guarantee?

Two years on our workmanship, in writing, running from the day the work is finished rather than the day the paperwork is done. Manufacturers’ guarantees on the materials themselves are separate and we will tell you what they are.

Is there VAT on top?

Installed insulation currently qualifies for the zero rate of VAT on energy-saving materials, so there is no VAT to add to the quoted price. The quotation shows the position that applies to your job.

Can I change my mind after I have signed?

If you signed at home or over the telephone rather than at our premises, you have fourteen days to cancel, by law, and we give you that in writing with the quotation. If you ask us to start inside those fourteen days we will ask you to put that in writing too, because once the work is fully done the right to cancel no longer applies. It is all on the terms page.

Which areas do you cover?

Two patches. In the north, the whole of Greater Manchester and the surrounding North West — Manchester, Salford, Prestwich, Middleton, Rochdale, Bury, Oldham, Bolton, Stockport, Trafford, Wigan and Warrington. In the south, the whole of Greater London, every borough, out to the near home counties. If you are just outside either, ring us; it is usually still a yes.
