We’re committed to lofts that stay warm and stay usable.

Clever Loft Solutions Limited supplies and installs loft insulation and loft boarding, to homes across Greater Manchester and Greater London. Most lofts round here were insulated once, to a standard that has moved on since, and then boarded straight onto the joists — which flattens the insulation that was paid for. We survey what is actually up there before we quote a penny.

Insulation to full depth

Laid between the joists, then across them, so the timber stops carrying heat straight out.

Boarding raised on legs

A floor you can walk on and store on, lifted clear of the wool with an airflow gap beneath.

0% VAT on energy-saving materials

Installed insulation currently qualifies for the zero rate on energy-saving materials, so there is no VAT to add to the quoted price.

A roll of mineral wool part-laid between timber ceiling joists. A loft insulated between and over the joists. A loft before work, with thin old insulation between bare joists.

See the difference

What a day in the loft actually changes.

Drag the handle. On the left, a loft with a thin, tired layer between bare joists — the state most lofts round here are in. On the right, a floor insulated to depth, edge to edge.

It is the same job every time: measure what is there, take out what is finished, lay the depth the standard asks for, and leave the eaves clear.

What we do

Four jobs, usually finished in a day.

Everything is measured at the survey and priced in writing before anything starts. Our own trained installers do the work — we do not subcontract it.

Mineral wool being rolled out between joists.

Loft insulation

Topped up where the existing layer is sound, stripped and relaid where it is damp or crushed.

Chipboard loft panels on raised legs.

Loft boarding

Raised on legs above the insulation, so the depth underneath is left exactly as it was fitted.

Hatches & ladders

Often it is the way up, not the floor, that has been putting you off. Fitted on the same visit.

Insulation removal

Damp, dusty or vermin-spoiled material bagged and taken away the same day.

Why it is always on legs

Compressed insulation stops insulating.

This is the whole difference between a cheap boarding job and one worth paying for, and it is why we have never fitted boards straight onto the joists. Two drawings say it faster than two paragraphs.

Squashed to 100 mm No air gap, no depth

Boards flat on the joists

Quick and cheap. The boards press the wool down to the depth of the timber, so the insulation you paid for is doing a fraction of its job, and there is no air gap left above it — which is where condensation problems start.

What we get called out to fix
Full depth, kept Airflow gap above the wool

Boards carried on legs

Legs fix down to the joists and lift the floor clear, so the insulation keeps its full depth and the loft keeps its airflow. It costs more in parts and the same in labour, and it is the only way we fit it.

The only way we fit it

Manchester and London

Two patches, one crew standard.

We cover the whole of Greater Manchester and the whole of Greater London. Same survey, same written price, same two-year guarantee on the workmanship, whichever end of the country you are at.

Questions we get asked

Straight answers before you book.

If something here does not cover it, ring us — we would rather talk it through than have you guess.

All questions
How quickly can you fit it?

Most jobs are surveyed and fitted inside the same week, and often within 24 hours of you accepting the quote. If a job cannot hit that, we say so at the survey rather than after.

Will boarding squash the insulation?

Not ours. The boards sit on legs above the wool with an airflow gap, so the depth underneath is untouched. Boards laid flat on the joists do crush it, and that is most of what we get called to fix.

Do I need to clear the loft first?

No. Tell us what is up there at the survey and we will work around it, or move it on the day and put it back on the new boards.

What does the guarantee cover?

Our workmanship and the fitting for two years from completion, with the manufacturer’s cover on the materials alongside it. You get both in writing.

Do you take the old insulation away?

Yes — bagged and gone the same day, at no extra charge, whenever we are replacing rather than topping up.

Find out what your loft needs. The survey costs nothing.
